IMPACT

Ordinary People. Extraordinary Impact.

When disaster strikes, it’s not just first responders who make a difference—it’s neighbors, friends, and everyday people who choose to show up.

Since our first mission in 2022, 2nd Responders has mobilized volunteers across Florida to bring relief, dignity, and hope to communities devastated by hurricanes.
What started as a spontaneous act of compassion has become a growing movement of response, recovery, and restoration.

Ian
2022 – Hurricane Ian
(North Fort Myers)

Hurricane Ian, one of the most devastating storms in U.S. history, struck Southwest Florida on September 28, 2022, as a powerful Category 4 hurricane with winds reaching 150 mph. The storm caused over $112 billion in damage and claimed more than 150 lives, primarily in Florida. Ian brought catastrophic storm surge up to 15 feet in Fort Myers Beach, over 20 inches of rainfall in some areas, and spawned 15 tornadoes across Florida and the Carolinas. It knocked out power to more than 2.4 million Floridians and made a final landfall in South Carolina as a Category 1 storm.

(Yankeetown)

Hurricane Idalia made landfall near Keaton Beach, Florida, on August 30, 2023, as a Category 3 storm with sustained winds of 125 mph. It brought life-threatening storm surge of 7 to 12 feet to parts of the Florida Big Bend, especially in Taylor and Dixie Counties. The hurricane dropped 5 to 7 inches of rain across a wide area stretching from Florida to North Carolina and caused significant damage to trees, buildings, and infrastructure from Tallahassee to beyond the Suwannee River. Idalia was responsible for 10 direct and indirect deaths in the U.S.

(Tampa Bay Region)

Hurricane Helene made landfall near Perry, Florida, on September 26, 2024, as a powerful Category 4 storm with sustained winds of 140 mph and a central pressure of 938 millibars. The storm caused catastrophic damage across Florida, Georgia, South Carolina, and North Carolina, bringing record-breaking rainfall of over 30 inches in some areas and severe inland flooding. With at least 250 confirmed deaths and hundreds still missing, Helene ranks among the deadliest U.S. hurricanes of the 21st century. It caused an estimated $78.7 billion in economic losses, widespread infrastructure damage, and power outages—including the repair or replacement of over 5,000 power poles in Georgia. The storm also triggered multiple tornadoes, including an EF-3 in South Carolina, and led to the evacuation of more than 5 million people along the East Coast.

The storm unleashed 47 confirmed tornadoes, record-breaking rainfall—including over 9 inches in 3 hours in St. Petersburg—and severe flooding that led to a presidential disaster declaration.
